The trips are reported to have been arranged by members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) who is quoted as saying:
"......the aim of the trip is to discuss 'issues of concern' in the area, including climate change - many islands fear being submerged if sea levels rise any further......"
Three points:
1. How about British MPs concern themselves with home-grown 'issues of concern' - such as the emasculation of our democracy by this draconian government?
2. Is it not a tad ironic that MPs, responsible for said emasculation, are going to 'promote the advancement of Parliamentary democracy by enhancing knowledge and understanding of democratic governance'?
3. Whilst loving the way 'climate change' manages to 'get into the act', on the aspect that 'many islands fear being submerged if sea levels rise any further', are MPs - and Peers - not aware that, as Christopher Booker highlights, the tiny Pacific nation of Tuvalu is pleading for international aid, as it sinks below the rising ocean – even though an expert study in 2001 showed that sea levels around Tuvalu have in fact been falling for 50 years.
No wonder the buggers want a 'self-regulatory' system to police them - they know damn well that, with a 're-call system', us voters will soon do the job, at a tenth of the cost and at a tenth of the time!*
* For the statistical amongs the readers - 'tenth' used as a figure of speech.
It's odd how you never hear about fact-finding missions to Milton Keynes or East Kilbride, isn't it?
