This film noir of the title revolved round the numbers racket. In some gangster films involving the Mafia, one of their sources of income was the 'numbers racket'.
It is now obvious that we in Britain also have our own 'numbers racket' - complete with our own Mafia - best exemplified by the following, which I nicked from Calling England.
