Nicked from Iain Dale:
"Most citizen journalism strikes me as nothing to do with journalism at all. A lot of bloggers seem to be socially inadequate, pimpled, single, slightly seedy, bald, cauliflower-nosed, young men sitting in their mother's basements and ranting. They are very angry people. OK – the country is full of very angry people. Many of us are angry people at times. Some of us are angry and drunk. But the so-called citizen journalism is the spewings and rantings of very drunk people late at night."Andrew Marr at the Cheltenham Literary Festival
If the 'professional' journalists, such as Andrew Marr, did their job properly, the case could be made that bloggers would not be necessary.
Andrew Marr is a prime example of the self-important, self-opinionated, politician's teat-sucking journalist that brings the (so-called) profession, of which he claims to be a member, into such disrepute. One can only trust the BBC disowns itself from Marr's remarks - but I won't hold my breath!
Methinks a public apology is due, Marr!

I left a comment at Iain's place when I saw that.
We got 'em (MSM) rattled WfW
Sue and TBF, Yup, they sure are rattled!
Perhaps they might take notice and do their bloody jobs properly! Some hope!
A man touched by the ugly stick!
If big ears Marr didn’t suck up – particularly to labour politicians – then he would perhaps be taken more seriously…though I doubt it.
He’s afraid of losing his spot in the limelight, there are perhaps thousands of people out there that could do his job, and most certainly scrutinise politicians to a greater degree than he does.
One thing is clear…he does at least look at blogs…I wonder why though when he’s so disparaging about them…surely you don’t think he’s learns anything from them…do you?
I like the way he describes bloggers as “A lot of bloggers seem to be socially inadequate, pimpled, single, slightly seedy, bald, cauliflower-nosed, young men sitting in their mother's basements and ranting”
This from a balding middle-aged mammoth-eared man with skeletal features – whom I’m sure women find desperately unattractive. Ironic isn’t it…he looks and sounds like the bloggers he describes.
Sir Robin Day and Brian Walden would have eaten Marr for breakfast.
Simpering wingnut. Yuk!
On the subject of who provides the news these days – it’s the blogosphere.
Just look at the Climate/Amazon/CRU/Splatter-gates, some of Guido’s stuff, and, of course, your good self, WfW.
Marr doesn’t like it because the blogosphere can digest, cross check, and put the correct version up before clowns like him have licked the end of their pencils.
The Marrs of the world are as dead as the Dodo, just like their fascist ideology.
Anon,
that's not the end of a pencil Andrew Marr's licking.
A. Marr said "A lot of bloggers seem to be
1. socially inadequate, 50/50.
2. pimpled, No.
3. single, Yes
4. slightly seedy, No (unless you count wanking about dead horses).
5. bald, No.
6. cauliflower-nosed, No
7. young men, No ( I wish).
8. sitting in their mother's..., No (R.I.P. Mum)
9. basements, No
10. and ranting. They are very angry people", Yes, with lots to be angry and ranting about, not least you Andrew Smarmy.
10-10-10 @10:10 Survivor.
My own lasting memory of Andrew Marr will always be Gordon Browns election that never was, back in the Autumn of 2007, when it wasn't Brown himself that appeared from behind the door of 10 Downing Street, nor a Minister, or even a Junior Minister, but Comrade Marr himself, with the official press release of his beloved parties diktat of cowardice.
From that moment onward, the BBC and New Labour were essentially interchangeable. One was the other and the other was one.
Even now, Marr essentially confounds that opinion, every time I have the misfortune to either listen or clap eyes on the man. This is simply Marr lashing out because BBC news "journalism" isn't trusted anymore, period.
Captain Ranty has posted an excellent reply:

Marr's comments reflect a fear not only of new technologies, but also of the erosion of privileges they encourage: http://bit.ly/bkYMd2
