What a surprise! Peter Hain is judged to be guilty of 'serious and substantial' failings yet is not punished! The report by the Commons Standards and Privileges Committee accepts that there was no 'intention to deceive' and Peter Hain continues to maintain that 'the mistakes I made were honest mistakes'.
As the taxpayer is the supplier of the remuneration that MPs receive for supposedly 'doing their job', should not it be the employer who decides whether the employee has made an error of judgement and the level of penalty?
Is that not 'democracy brought down to the lowest level'?
Just a thought.
