The Problem With Democracy In This Country

A post today about events in Parliament, by Douglas Carswell MP, on his blog amply demonstrates what is wrong with democracy in this country today.

Detailing the fact, which emerged during a statement by the Government on the matter of a third runway at Heathrow, that the decision to be taken will be made by quangos and not by those we elect, the member for Hayes & Harlington - John McDonnell (Labour) - realising that he and the chamber in which he sits holds no purpose, makes a protest.

Welcome to the 'modern method of government' Mr. McDonnell, 'a method of government' practised by the party of which you are a member!

Note also Douglas Carswell's comment about the presence, and the reason for said presence, of the police 'on the parliamentary estate'!

Update: I originally was under the impression that John McDonnell may have 'seen the light' and was making a stand for democracy. Now that the news is out about the Government trying to cover up the release of the report about MPs expenses by releasing this on the same day as the Heathrow third runway decision, I have to ask - was the McDonnell 'demonstration' a 'smokescreen/put-up job' to distract the media? I would not put anything past this government!

Update 2:

I have an apology to make to John McDonnell. I retract my suspicion that he may have taken part in a stage-managed act. Having checked, John McDonnell really does believe in democracy - he was one of 18 Labour MPs who voted against the Lisbon Treaty!

Nuff said really!!
