Open Europe, in their daily press summary today, reports on the EU's Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Directive which currently targets heavy industries such as power stations and extraction and mining industries.
The press summary, which quotes the Press Association, states that plans are to widen the scope and establish a permit system to prevent and limit pollution from "large-scale industrial installations." and that this could well effect 70 NHS hospitals.
A Conservative MEP, Caroline Jackson, has tabled an amendment to exclude hospitals and is hopeful that this amendment will be agreed at the first reading in the EU Parliament. Whats the betting?
This latest story is but another reason why this country should just get the hell out of the European Union. Some 'greenie-loving' bureaucrat dreams up an addition to a piece of existing legislation which will no doubt result in our taxes having to rise - something that will not affect said bureaucrat.
Why the blazes are we paying the billions we are for the pleasure of some bureaucrat's costly 'whim' when we have one of our own - the self-annointed Saviour of the World?
