An article in the Sunday Herald shows that the snouts are deeper in the trough that at first appears, in that the paper alleges around 40 MPs claim the additional costs allowance while also acting as landlords. The charge involves buying a second home and then renting it out; and that it is possible, under the rules, to buy two homes and then rent one of them out.
Among those named are Darling, Reid, Kennedy and McAvoy - three Labour and one Liberal Democrat - who are all Scots.
