James Forsyth, writing on the Coffee House, picks up on comments by Sir Hugh Orde, President of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).
Making the point that Orde, like Blair, is not a traditional policeman but a politician in a policeman's uniform, Forsyth quotes two phrases Orde uttered.
Orde seems to forget, with those phrases, that like politicians it is public money that pays his wages. He also seems to forget that once 'direct democracy' is embraced - ie, locally elected police chiefs - his wages can be stopped!
When will the public sector learn what is a very simple lesson - that they are public servants and that their income depends on keeping us happy and providing what we want?
