"we need to do better - and the NHS will be my immediate priority" and "We need to and will do better...... at getting basics of food, hygiene and cleanliness right"
A report by the BBC therefore makes interesting reading. Hospitals reported 3,645 deaths in 2007-8 from patient safety incidents, the figure including those relating to problems with scans and tests and hospital infections. It represents a 60% rise in the last two years, but experts said it was due to better reporting not worsening care.
So better reporting makes the increase acceptable, does it? In other words, its always been this bad, its just that we, the people, have never been told before!
