Fulfact.org has a post about the smokescreen that has been put out by Caroline Flint - she, the erstwhile 'fanciable face' of the last government (although, forget the face - lets talk about the body!) and also to be fair, Caroline was probably the only bit of 'flint' the last government had!
Needless to say, there is included a statement from ASH - that paragon of fairness, truth and quotability:
"...Whilst it is encouraging that awareness of the dangers of passive smoke exposure to children is increasing, it is still of major concern that only around half of adults are aware that passive smoking can cause cot death....."And the provenance of this statement, ie the quotable 'scientific proof' of this is......? As far as I am aware - and obviously I stand to be corrected - I believe that there is not one scientific study whereby an autopsy can show that a non-smoker died of second-hand smoke.

When my son was a baby - some 30 years ago - the main cause of cot death was considered to be the reaction between baby dribblings and the chemicals used in the manufacture of cot matresses.
And if second hand smoke caused cot deaths he would be six foot under by now!
A, don't you just love 'scientists' and how their 'opinions' and basis for utterances change from decade to decade - and bloody governments hang on their every word and then legislate on 'unproven' facts!"
They don't even need a fact.. Remember the ban on that drug that wasn't even taken by the (state given) methodone addict?
