Just WTF Is Going On In Our Country?

And more particularly, within our education system?

Richard North, EU Referendum, highlights a story about two schoolboys who "have been given detention after refusing to kneel down and "pray to Allah" during a religious education lesson at Alsager High School, near Stoke-on-Trent." Richard notes that: "Parents were outraged that the two boys from year seven (11 to 12-year-olds) were punished for not wanting to take part in the practical demonstration of how Allah is worshipped."

Never mind the response of parents, quoted in the Mail, who said it was an abuse of the children's Human Rights - its an abuse of the education system!

And our elected, 'supposedly wise men/women' wonder why parents opt for 'home education'?

I used to live in Alsager and it's worth noting that it is a quite traditional small, rural South Cheshire town. Don't be confusd by the Stoke postcode.
It doesn't serve a large immigrant community or area.

Anon, Yes I know Alsager as I have a friend who lives there which is why I am puzzled and (if story correct) amazed at these events.

It will be interesting to find out what the ethnic/religious background of the RE teacher is. If it is Muslim then expect this to be swept under the carpet.

I also find it quite astonishing that that the Headmaster seems unable to decide whether this was right/wrong or normal practice because he teaches English, not RE.

Scooper, two excellent points - have not been able to ascertain the first.

On the second, it beggars belief does it not? Mind you, to decide right from wrong and vice-a-versa, one does need at least one brain cell!

May I suggest you read Richard's update on his story WfW.

The story actually dates from 2008 and Richard has followed through to find out what the outcome was for the teacher involved and the school.

Rossa,

Point taken, however the 'problem' of the abuse of our education system still continues......
