Europe's Largest 'Illegal Immigrant' Detention Centre

The Telegraph reports that Cherwell District Council has granted planning permission to the Home Office for the largest detention centre in Europe, holding 800, to be built at Bullingdon in my county of Oxfordshire. It is fair to say that the Home Office have yet to decide whether to proceed with this or or build a smaller facility on the site of the existing Yarl's Wood immigration removal centre in Bedfordshire.

A UK Border Agency spokeswoman said: "Expanding the detention estate is a critical part of the UK Border Agency's plans to increase the removal of those who have no legal basis to stay in the UK and the fast removal of those who come to the UK and commit serious crimes."

Of course it does not appear to have crossed the minds of our politicians and bureaucrats that when an illegal applicant is apprehended, if he/she was promptly put on a plane or boat back from whence they came we could save the £32million that the detention centre will cost to build, let alone the additional millions it will cost to staff and maintain!

Pause for a minute and ask yourself the question I posed in an earlier post - 'do we really need to have/belong to/take part in..............' and apply it to the EU, Gordon Brown, Labour Governments, control of our own borders, the ability to govern ourselves and decide our own laws. The answers must be, in order, No, No, No, Yes, Yes and Yes!
