A GCSE In Parenting?

Apparently so, if this report in the print edition of the Telegraph is to be believed. It relates that pregnant schoolgirls could get the equivalent of a GCSE in parenting skills. Two courses will be offered at charities (fake no doubt), pupil referral units and community centres.

What stupid bastard (pun intended) thought this one up? And the cost?

Despite a 10-year strategy costing £280million which has been spent on contraception and sex education, the number of conceptions among the under-18s has risen from 41,800 in 2006 to 42,918 in 2007, the paper reports.

Yet another example of a Labour programme delivering value for money! But wait, it is working!

"Doing this course has improved my parenting skills and my knowledge of being a parent" - so says one schoolgirl taking an early version of the course.

WTF?

Ho hum.

They* spend £28 million a year telling schoolgirls not to have babies, and £10 billion a year on tax credits etc (plus free council housing) as an incentive for them to have babies...

* I am reliably informed that this has been creeping in since the 1970s, so it's not just Labour to blame.

Oh I know it is not just Labour (yet another pun) the other two main parties are just as bad, all with the same mantra - its for the children!
