Open Europe's press summary for today quote Angela Merkel stating: "....our goal must be that all EU member States join the euro one day." and also William Hague, discussing the horse-trading that went on forming our new government and in particular on differences within the two parties about EU membership, stating: "....They have also come to the view that we shouldn't be joining the euro in the foreseeable -- in the near future. So, we have agreed that, in the lifetime of this government, this Parliament, we're not going to be doing that."
Angela Merkel should be aware that we are 'au fait' with Article 3.4 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU) which states: "The Union shall establish an economic and monetary union whose currency is the euro." so it is not only a goal, but a stated aim. What is in doubt and unknown is the timescale for this aim to be actioned. Which also makes Haugue's statement about not joining the euro 'in the lifetime of this government, this Parliament' all the more worrying on two counts - first, that he cannot guarantee this government or this Parliament lasting for any given period and second, why is this statement only applicable to this Parliament?
It also raises the question whether the ability of a country to set its own currency and decide how to manage that currency would be a loss of power were that right to be assumed by another. Of course neither Call Me Dave, Nick Nick nor Hague The Vague has stated what would constitute a loss of power, this no doubt to be decided by our 'elected dictators', to which body they belong.
Yet again one has to ask: what do they know that we don't?
The wolves in Europe and Britain really are 'corralling' their sheep!

Going soft already, well sort of, he's been like it a long time. Hague the vague is bought and paid for...by the EU (well us taxpayers really).
