Yup, Same Over Here!

In his new book, In Search of Self-Governance, Scott Rasmussen observes that the American people are “united in the belief that our political system is broken, that politicians are corrupt and that neither major political party has the answers.” He adds that “the gap between Americans who want to govern themselves and the politicians who want to rule over them may be as big today as the gap between the colonies and England during the 18th century.”

Data released yesterday finds that 68% of voters believe the Political Class doesn't care what most Americans think. Earlier polling shows that 59% are embarrassed by the behaviour of the Political Class. As methinks similar percentages would be found in the UK, as the post heading says: Yup, same over here!

I should think it would be far more than 59%.

Our politicians care not a jot because they have nothing to lose.

We are not able to punish them for ignoring us. They know full well we have a limited choice at a general election and they also know we vote for the most charismatic leader who promises us the most in the future, not on their past performance.

Because of this they get away with spending more and more of our money, rewarding the banks by imposing zero percent interest rates, ignoring our request for a referendum on EU, and generally treating us like a pile of shit whilst still making the right soothing noises.

The anger of the blogesphere will tell you exactly the degree of contempt they show us and we are stupid enough to think a general election will sort them out.

Just take a look at the personal wealth of the departing MP's and the increase they enjoyed over 13 years of public duty to see what sort of sanction a general election delivered

They are organised. It took them a long time but now they are sufficiently sure of their position that they hardly bother to hide their contempt. The only risk to their security is the press and they know too well that the answer to this threat is to cover their tracks carefully.

Cameron knows he will be in power long enough to make another fortune and then he or a Conservative successor will hand over to the next socialist government and so it goes on.

Until society is willing to organise itself against being perpetually stuffed then it should sit back and enjoy it. Fuck all point in moaning about it otherwise

I have to agree with the Anon. above, the b*stards are stuffing us right royaly, but still the expenses roll into their bank accounts as ours decrease. I hate the whole bloody lot.

James, possibly.

anon (1), What you say is right, what is unfortunate is the electorate fall for the three main parties propoganda every time. The media are to blame by not giving equal time and space to any other party standing - which presumes the media are in the politician's pockets, ie do not write about what we want and you won't get access to us.

anon (2), your hate is shared I believe by the majority of the electorate. The problem is the bulk of the electorate are too interested in the favourite soaps etc etc, coupled with the fact they get their news in soundbites from the tv and appear to have lost the ability to think for themselves.
