Once A Politician - Always A Politician

Meaning that they have no intention of keeping their word!

"We will implement a full programme of measures to reverse the substantial erosion of civil liberties and roll back state intrusion........We will end the storage of internet and email records without good reason."
"Government measures to massively increase surveillance of the internet will be in place within five years.........Confusingly, today's Home Office document says it will "end the storage of internet and email records without good reason" via "proposals for the storage and acquisition of internet and email records"."
"At Prime Minister's Questions recently, David Cameron said: "We are not considering a central government database to store all communications information, and we shall be working with the Information Commissioner's Office on anything we do in that area."
Memo to self: Contact Wikipedia as they state Cameron's full name is: David William Donald - surely it is David U-Turn - I Can't Help Myself?

As Poland was on the point of joining the EU, a quite high powered delegation visited the Midlands and a group of us Eurosceptics some how contrived to be invited to the meeting in Nottinghamshire's County Hall.

It was a bit like old-time, cold war negotiations as the leader of the delegation spoke no English and everything had to go at a slow pace through a charming lady interpreter. The most impressive Pole was a former general who had gone into politics and did speak English very well.

It was obvious that the Poles felt they were getting more security from Russia by joining the EU, so we did not achieve a meeting of minds about it.

At the end our leader, George West, made a polite and friendly speech, wishing the delegates and their country well.

Their leader responded even more fulsomely. After she had finished translating, the interpreter said sotto voce "But remember. He is politician".
We kept straight faces until we got outside.

So politicians are the same everywhere- but more so inside the EU.
