Open Your Eyes, Douglas

Douglas Carswell, in this post, laments the fact that "When in power, the Left tends to establish new institutions and quangos, in keeping with the technocratic spirit of the times. For all the huffing and puffing with which we first greet them, when the Right holds office, what bits of the new state apparatus do we actually abolish?" and questions which bits of 'government' will actually be abolished, rather than 'tinkering at the edges'.

He will have to wait a few more years yet, as what we presently have is a centre-left government led by centre-left leader, the latter masquerading as a Conservative. If Douglas Carswell really does want a government of the Right, perhaps he should consider leading a coup?

I don't know Douglas, but it would seem that he is more interested in his own publicity then actually leading a movement. What do you think?

A, You could well be right. My fear with the Direct Democracy movement is that he and Hannan termed it a 'benign' campaign and what we need is anything but a 'benign' campaign.

One does have to wonder whether he and Hannan like their political salaries and the kudos that accompany them, more than they believe in principles they eschew.
