“I do hope the finished brochure contains no photos of fat people (promoting obesity), or thin people (promoting eating disorders), white people (promoting cultural imperalism), black people (tokenism), women wearing make-up (promoting an unhealthy obsession with idealised female beauty) or children’s authors who do not have the correct CRB clearance.”
Lynn Barber, writer and interviewer, on withdrawing from a literary festival being held by Richmond (Surrey) council when they refused to use a black and white photograph - which has been used on numerous occasions by other organisers - as a publicity photograph.

Great quote. The Telegraph have more than the Guardian did the other day otherwise I may have had more fun with it. ;-)
I wrote to Martin Amis in the hope he might come out and give Richmond a bloody nose too. Worth a try.
If you don't mind WfW, I may do something with this too. Being a smoker of course I really should, shouldn't I.
Apols DP - for some reason I missed your post. Only saw the item today in the DT
Nothing to apologise for WfW, the Guardian piece was nowhere near as damning as the DT's - excellent that Richmond will have the fuckwittery spotlight pointed in their direction a bit longer. ;-)
I did the same WfW on the Freedom-2-Choose blog, don’t know how I missed it in it’s earlier incantation that DP referred to.
That quote above by Amelia Fairney was a brave statement in this ever increasing PC world we live in todays in broken Britain.
