And The Real Reason Is?

The Anger Of A Quiet Man posts on the increase in toll charges for the Dartford Crossing:
"Toll charges are set to be increased for the Dartford Crossing between Kent and Essex, it was announced in the government Spending Review. Under the plans, the charges could rise from £1.50 to £2 next year for cars, before rising to £2.50 in 2012. The Department of Transport (DfT) said the money would be used to explore ways of improving traffic flow."
Note the last sentence - "The Department of Transport (DfT) said the money would be used to explore ways of improving traffic flow." (my emphasis) Wouldn't have anything to do with the EU's Galileo project, would it?

Christopher Booker has posted on the EU's Galileo system here, here, and here. The cost of this project has been escalating year on year and only this January the Telegraph has reported that the initial estimate has grown from £1.8billion to £5billion, if of course the Telegraph figures can be believed - they do have form in this regard as they are known to 'copy & paste' so-called 'facts' without checking the source!

On the basis this Coalition 'government' have been shown to be anything but 'honest and transparent', it is reasonable to cast doubt on the reasons given for the proposed increase in Dartford Crossing charges.

Surely the obvious way to improve traffic flow is to do away with toll charges altogether!!! And IIRC weren't the tolls only supposed to be levied until the crossing had been paid for?
