The Eurosceptic Conservative Party

Only yesterday we had Daniel Hannan proclaiming on a post that a vote for UKIP was a wasted vote and that "....every activist who deserts the Tories for UKIP is retarding the prospects of a Euro-sceptic Conservative Party....

Prior to writing that perhaps Daniel should have checked with William Hague, as today the latter is  reported to have announced on Sky 'Sunday Live' that he ruled out an in/out referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union and said: "We certainly not going to have a referendum on getting out of it,” he said.“We are very much in favour of Europe using it’s collective weight in the world, and (in some cases) to a greater extent.

Yet again the Conservative Party would seem to have a problem in that they have no idea what their left and right hands spokesmen are saying. Perhaps Daniel Hannan needs to edit his post? 'We certainly not going to have a referendum on getting out of it. We are very much in favour of Europe' - and that is Euroscepticism?? Well, bugger me Daniel! (Actually, don't even think of trying!)

To underline the Conservative Party policy on EU membership one only has to view the correspondence from Conservative candidates that is available on the Albion Alliance website, responses that have been received to emails and letters sent. It is obvious that CCHQ supplied their candidates with a 'template' to use for candidate's responses, as the wording is virtually identical. As examples of this, see here, here and here.

This from a party campaigning on the theme of 'change', a change from the present system of government. One has to ask what change? There is no 'change' from the views and policies of Labour or the Liberal Democrats. This from a party that wishes to devolve power yet also believes in membership of a centralised, 'foreign' form of government.

Yet another important point to make is that the examples, quoted above, of responses from Conservative candidates shows that they do not believe in 'country before party' and are firmly wedded to the converse view of 'party before country'. Whether this is due to the fact that they feel they have no responsibility to, and for, the country they wish to govern, or whether they are lured by the prospect of becoming an MP and in so doing benefiting from the salary, perks and pensions they will receive, one can only hazard a guess.

It is a fact that the Conservative Party - along with the Labour and Liberal Democrat Parties - are no longer 'fit for purpose' and all three should be treated with the same disdain, nay revulsion, as that exhibited by a member of the public who had unfortunately stepped into some animal excrement.

Despite Hannan's protestations that Conservative Eu-sceptics should keep faith with the Party and push for change at a later date, I think Hague nailed that this morning. I think he shored up the UKIP vote (and brings the possibility of a hung parliament that much closer).

A most incisive view GV and spot on! Hague obviously wants to see some UKIP MPs in the HoC!

How stupid can these people get? The replies you got do not make sense, they must know that a single EU state is the aim and there will be no detractors from that. I find it unbelievable that people with such a low intelligence can even think of becoming MPs. On the other hand of course, they could be lying, knowing full well that we are going to be stuffed by their beloved EU.
