In their section "In Brief" the Telegraph reports (no link):
"Breeding birds prefer lights off - Glare from street lights is interfering with the breeding habits of birds, experts say. Street lights could also make them vulnerable to predators, say researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Germany."And just how long before the 'mentalists advance this argument into their twitterings about saving CO2 emissions?

I've always said street lights interfere with sex. ;)
Personally, I would welcome a reduction in light pollution. It spoils the night sky. If the light was focused downwards this would help.
