The Conservative Party are reported to be about to 'unpersonalise' your personal bank account, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Identity Cards were not just about 'proving ones identity', but would have been used for a myriad of other reasons - to track one's financial lifestyle, for example.
If the Conservative 'plan' is to allow the easy collection of income tax, how long before it would be expanded to collect other 'taxes'?
The only reason for HM Revenue & Customs being inundated with work is the vast, differing levels of taxation. So why not adopt a flat tax system of 10 percent of all earnings? Couple this with a new welfare system and problems solved - no need for this Big Brother approach and intrusion by the State into one of the few areas in which you presently have total, personal control.
Simples.

Hurray for flat tax, but it'll take a while before we get it down to 10%, I'm afraid.
It would be interesting to see what the result of a flat tax system - it'd be easy to administer for a start, which could mean job losses.
