In the print edition of the Daily Telegraph is a resume of the 'events' leading up to the exposure of MP's use of the parliamentary expenses system.
In their 'resume' the Telegraph state "January 2005 Requests for details of MP's expenses are made by journalists soon after the Freedom of Information Act comes into effect", etc etc.
Not one mention of Heather Brooke, who is "one of the leading figures exposing the House of Commons resistance to disclosing expenses of Members of Parliament (MPs), generating a furore that culminated in the resignation of Speaker"
Lets face it, if Joan Bakewell, in her younger days', was the 'Thinking Man's Crumpet',
the surely Heather Brooke is the 'Political Anorak's Crumpet'!
C'mon 'Graph - credit where credit is due!

Thank you for this. I am from Washington State, USA and met recently my state's hero... very upset and disturbed Heather Brooke is not getting her toasts and bouquets and parades (and you get the picture) for this glorious moment. How sad. Heather risked her financial reputation, her marriage and her livelihood to open up the records... and I'll stop there.
J,
My pleasure Sir.
Unfortunately, I live in a different country to yours, although we do seem to be 'merging', from what I read.
I do have to say that, where I only younger, I would willingly offer to rectify all three of the deficencies she has suffered as a result of her crusade.
Seriously though, it does annoy me how the main stream media (MSM) in this country 'assume' the credit where it is not due!
J,
Added thoughts.
Firstly, thank you for reading my blog.
Secondly, unfortunately our media are 'wedded' to the 'political thinking of the day' as they do not wish to lose 'insights' into the political agenda.
Thirdly, we do not have the luxury of something like Fox News to counter the 'propoganda' put out by the 'state media'.
You, as a country, still do have something to be thankful for!
Thanks W.
I came here thru a Google Blogs search. She's still happily married, and I'm happy for her. Don't think I could handle being married to an action hero and having to sit on the bench while she does her thing. At least I got to give her roses and say thanks from one watchdog to another last month. I'll post a link to the video of her talk here when I post it soon on Vimeo.
Also I do question the relationship(s) between Fox News & the GOP in my country. That said, I have to compliment the blogosphere for picking up after the pitiful excuse for media. In fact Heather spoke out about this recently on Newswipe.
