Political Denials

Following a report in the Times that both Conservatives and Labour are considering a rise to 20 per cent on VAT, comes a swift rebuttal in a report by Reuters.

One is reminded of:

From Wikipedia:

Tony Blair - We have no plans to increase tax at all.
  • Philip Bassett, "Blair pledges he will not raise tax", The Times, 21 September 1995, p. 1.
  • Response to questioning about Labour Party tax plans at a CBI seminar in Birmingham, 20 September 1995.
And of course no-one would dare 'tax' Cameron by the mention of this guarantee"

The essential problem with Cameron is that no one believes him.
